Bills Created to Encourage Supermarket Development in Urban Areas like Trenton
A group of bills, including two sponsored by local legislators, are intended to encourage supermarket expansion and lure retailers into urban areas and so-called food deserts. A section of the Hamilton-Trenton border was recently identified by the federal government as one of 134 “food deserts” across the state. In these areas, grocery stores and fresh, affordable food are often scarce, while corner bodegas and fast-food joints abound.
