Troubling Trends in CMPD's Latest Crime Statistics

Charlotte crime is up 10.6 percent compared to last year with violent crime up by 17.6 percent. Police have launched several new initiatives aimed at stemming crime including setting up a hotline for community members to report illegal liquor houses. The North Tryon Division has seen the greatest surge than any other division with the number of killings tripling through the third quarter. Domestic violence-related homicides have also increased with seven being reported so far this year.
