Princeton Regional School District and Teachers' Union Unable to Reach Agreement at Meeting

Representatives of the teachers union in the Princeton Regional School District met with school board members for more than 12 hours in a session that ended at 5 a.m. yesterday but they have yet to ratify a contract.

The negotiation session that began at 4:30 p.m. Thursday was the fifth for the two parties, and the two sides had different views on how it went. District superintendent Judith Wilson said the board and PREA teams made great progress.

However, Joanne Ryan, the teachers union president in the Princeton district, said, “PREA (the Princeton Regional Education Association) was stunned that a settlement was not reached despite the all-night effort and significant concessions by PREA."

The Princeton Regional district is one of five area school districts in mediation with their teacher unions. Teachers in those districts are working under expired contracts. The three-year contracts in those districts expired June 30.
