Mercer County Prosecutor Will Retire at End of February

"Mercer County Prosecutor Joseph Bocchini Jr. will retire from his post at the end of the month, he confirmed Monday," according to Jenna Pizzi of Times of Trenton.

"Because Gov. Chris Christie has not appointed a successor for Bocchini, it will go to the state Attorney General to appoint an interim prosecutor while Christie mulls his decision and sends that appointment for the advice and consent of the state Senate.

Bocchini, who served in the general assembly from 1982 to 1988, was the first prosecutor in county history to serve two five-year terms. He told Christie before his term expired in June that he would not seek a third term. Sen. Shirley Turner said she hasn't yet heard about the appointment coming down, but hopes when Christie makes his choice it is First Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri. Bocchini, too, is supportive of Onofri taking over the reins."
