School Breakfast in America's Big Cities
The Food Research and Action Center’s annual report showcases the successes and areas of possible growth in terms of free and reduced meal programs in low-income school districts. In the ongoing battle to ensure America’s young students receive sustenance, the Newark school district ranked among the top five along with Detroit, Boston, Columbus (OH), and Pittsburgh during the 2009-2010 academic year. Of the five, Newark and Detroit were the only districts to reach 70% of their targeted students, the highest success rate in the nation.
