CDC Warns Women Against Drinking Without Contraception

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released a new report urging all women of child-bearing age to avoid alcohol unless they are currently using some form of contraception. At least 3 million US women are inadvertently risking their developing baby’s health by drinking alcohol and having unprotected sex. Currently, as many as 5% of U.S. schoolchildren might have fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, symptoms of which include low birth weight, slower growth, and problems in the heart, brain, or other organs.
