Crawford County Unemployment Rate Up Slightly as More Seek Work

Crawford County’s unemployment rate is back above 5 percent, rising to 5.1 percent for February. The county’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.1 percent for February is up from 4.7 percent in January, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. February's rate is equal to the county's rate of 5.1 percent in February 2015 and in November 2015.

Crawford County wasn't alone in seeing its unemployment rate rise in February as 60 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties saw increases. Of the remaining seven counties, three were unchanged and the other four had slight decreases, according to the state.

The county's unemployment rate went up because the county's seasonally adjusted total labor force grew by 400 during the month, but not everybody looking for work was able to find a job, according to Ashley Yanchunas, a state labor analyst. The total labor force is the number of people who live in a county and are in the workforce, but their jobs may be in another county.
