County Jail Video Visitation System Mulled by County Leaders

Crawford County commissioners discussed the addition of a video visitation system at the Crawford County jail when they held their work session on Wednesday.

Deputy Warden Ken Saulsberry of the county jail in Saegertown sought commissioner approval for the system which would allow those who can't get to the jail to visit inmates through use of a computer, tablet or smartphone.

"The video system would work through our current phone system, but it would not affect the use of facility telephones," Saulsberry said. "There would be no cost to the county or to inmates." The person calling an inmate from the video system outside the jail would be charged a $5 fee per 20 minutes of off-site visiting, Saulsberry said.

The video system is gaining popularity at many prisons, according to Saulsberry. "Butler County prison has been using the system and are pleased with it," he said.
