New Health Care Program Will Cover Some HIV Medications

On February 1st, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services agreed the state would pay for medication for HIV positive residents who have purchased insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The Insurance Copay Assistance Program will ensure that qualifying residents need not cover their own medication costs, which can exceed two thousand dollars for each month of treatment. Although several thousand North Carolina residents could qualify and thirty-six thousand NC citizens are infected with the virus, the February 15th deadline will undoubtedly limited the number of applicants.
