Meals on Wheels Needs Help

"Mark Smith, South Central Human Resource Agency’s kitchen manager for the Meals on Wheels nutrition program as well as volunteer delivery driver, distributes a meal to Ina Griffin of Winchester. There is currently a severe shortage of volunteer drivers for this program. Those interested in signing up to help deliver meals may call Smith at 967-7711 (weekdays between 8:30-10:30 a.m.)"

"About Meals on Wheels: Franklin County’s home delivery includes five programs that serve seniors who are unable to prepare meals without great difficulty. Volunteers deliver lunch to their doors five days a week, year round."

"The nutritionally-balanced lunches provided by Meals on Wheels include a meat entree, two vegetable servings, a serving of fruit and a half-pint of milk. Most of the time the meats and vegetables are delivered hot. About once a week, a cold plate is served that will include some kind of cold-cut sandwich."

"The food is first delivered to the kitchen manager at F.C. Senior Center from the SCHRA facility in Fayetteville, which prepares pans of food for 21 sites in a seven-county region with distribution to senior centers and Head Start programs."
