Respond Inc. Summer Letter 2011
We’ve celebrated a number of important achievements recently. The New Worker Job Development Center has been joyfully named in honor of the Rev. Dr. Charles A. Sayre. The Meadows at Pyne Poynt, which will provide quality supportive housing in Camden, is under construction. And several new initiatives Putting the Fun in Healthy Eating Respond, Inc. is continuing its partnership with Campbell Soup Co. and the nonprofit Camden Children’s Garden to combat obesity by educating children about healthy foods. Campbell Soup employees joined members of the Camden County Garden Club at the Pyne Poynt Childcare Center for “Tomato Day” to teach children about gardening and growing tomatoes. Quazear Jones and Shaniyah Wesselhost with a tiny tomato plant. Campbell’s employees gave out red aprons, read stories, and helped students plant their very own tomato plants. And what was the perfect ending to this delicious visit? The Pyne Poynt class enjoying fresh garden salads! “Being with the children and sharing their discussions and salad was a gift,” said Wendy Higgins Chambers, director of consumer and customer insights at Campbell. “Helping them to plant their very own tomato plants that they will take home and care for is a great way to underscore that they can do anything.” continued on page 2 Kim Fortunato, Director of Campbell’s Childhood Obesity and Hunger Program, asks Joaquin Santiago from Respond’s State Street Center: “Do you want to plant some vegetables today?” and partnerships through our childcare centers are helping us combat obesity, increase physical activity and improve nutrition.
