More Mammographies for Women with Medicaid

Low-income women were 25% more likely to be screened for breast cancer in states which implemented Medicaid expansion in 2011 than in states which did not. According to a study presented before the Radiological Society of North America, the new numbers show improvement from 2008, when low-income women in both types of states were equally likely to be screened. Under the Affordable Care Act, thirty states and the District of Columbia expanded their health insurance program in 2011, which covers people living at or below 138% of the federal poverty level.
